February 13, 2024
Multidisciplinary artist Igshaan Adams, born in Cape Town, South Africa, explores the dynamics of space, movement, and resistance in post-apartheid South Africa through weaving practices. His large-scale woven tapestries reflect the interconnectedness of his spirituality, familial histories, and local community narratives, rooted in his South African heritage. Adams's monumental commission, Lynloop, at the ICA/Boston, is an experimental weaving inspired by aerial images of footpaths from his childhood, representing a tactile mapping of space, human interaction, and memory in hues of pink with various materials.
